Finally, an actual review

I want to talk about the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour.

This is the first product I’ve ever purchased from Rimmel London. Until very recently I was both a makeup snob and very averse to lip colors. I hadn’t found any drugstore products I really liked; even when I was in high school and Cover Girl was the thing, I was Mary Kay all the way. That shit isn’t cheap. Luckily my mom was an MK lady and had no problem giving her daughters ridiculously expensive makeup and skin care. As to the aversion to lipstick, I’ve always thought it looked weird on me. I have thin lips and it just wasn’t something I was accustomed to wearing. I also got annoyed that it rubbed off so easily.

Having said that, I freakin’ love this stuff. I got the shade Pink Blink, and it’s that subtle, my-lips-but-better kind of look.

It dries really quickly to an almost completely matte finish, and from there it’s almost totally transfer proof. I wore this through a Sunday afternoon at a local brewery with Dan, and we’re that gross couple that kisses (a little; not like sucking face) in public. Add to this the… several… beers I downed and dinner afterward, and it still looked good. Had I not wiped my mouth like a maniac halfway through dinner it likely would have stayed on. Even when it’s wearing off it doesn’t look patchy or chunky and at no point did I feel the need to run to the bathroom to either remove or reapply. It’s not too drying so I didn’t feel like my lips were crusty after it came off. Admittedly I did prep my lips before applying with Milani Keep It Sweet Sugar Lip Scrub, but that was something that needed to happen anyway. My lips weren’t looking too hot.

So yeah, highly recommend this stuff. The packaging is a little odd, and I guess this is only for the US market. It’s distinctive for sure, and I will definitely be picking up a few more of the colors. If you’re interested in lip swatches Nikkia Joy just did a video… I think some of her faces are a little weird, but otherwise, the swatches look good. Check it out here.
