Magic Sponge Cleaner

I’m not even joking. This shit is magic.

Oh oh it’s magic…

I had never heard of it until I started watching this YouTube channel called Beauty News, which involves two gloriously foul-mouthed Aussie chicks talking about the latest in beauty news. I adore them. They also have individual channels and they both swear by this stuff so I figured why not give it a shot.

Unfortunately for me, there aren’t any Daiso stores on my side of the country. They’re all in California, Washington and Texas, and the Daiso website isn’t terribly friendly when it comes to online orders. I also heard from these same lovely Aussies that this formula of the detergent has been discontinued, reformulated, whatever terrible thing companies do to amazing products. I ended up ordering this bottle from Amazon, and while it was cheap and shipping was free, it took damn near six weeks to arrive. I’m pretty sure it was shipped from Japan. I’m no stranger to ordering products from Japan (and China, and Korea…) and waiting endlessly for them to arrive, but that seemed excessive. It was definitely worth the wait, and now I don’t know how my sponges will live without it.

I took some before and after shots of said sponge. I’m currently using the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and I swear to you, I’ll never go back to BeautyBlender. It’s cheaper, sturdier and has a more common-sense design and I love it. I don’t show it since I don’t clean my sponges every day (don’t judge me bro), but this stuff still made my poor sponge squeaky clean.

No more gross

This thing seriously looks like it’s never been used, but I know the truth. Supposedly I can also use this on my equally disgusting brushes, but I have very little and don’t want to waste it. This detergent has quickly achieved holy grail status in my book.

What do you guys use to clean your brushes and sponges? Are there other products I should be trying? I’d love to hear your feedback or ideas for additional posts in the comments!

  1. I use a Mary Kay brush cleaner for my brushes, I’ve been pretty happy with it, but… I’m sort of handicapped to makeup and only ever tried one other brush cleaner.

    1. I’ve used a bunch of different brands of brush-specific cleaner junk, plus face wash, and nothing has been as good as this junk. Why do the Japanese have the best stuff?!
