I have a thing about movie tie-in collections

I don’t know what it is about movie themed makeup; I just love it. I’ve purchased a few of these eyeshadow palettes over the last few years, and I wanted to talk about some that have really impressed me.

First and foremost is the newest of these movie tie-ins, the Snow White collection from Besame Cosmetics. Oh. My. God. It is so gorgeous. I don’t actually own it (yet), but my girl over at Admissions of a Makeup Addict was lucky enough to grab one during the presale, and she posted some photos of the palette and one of the looks she created. It’s so incredibly beautiful I don’t know that I’d even use it.

Now for the ones I own and love:

Urban Decay’s Alice Through the Looking Glass palette

Hated the movie, love the palette. This was a special edition and is now discontinued so you can really only find it on eBay, but it’s beautiful. I know I’ve said that I’m not someone who purchases just for the packaging, but I made an exception in this case. The butterfly in the top of the package has no function, but it’s really pretty and interesting, and the design around the actual shadows is trippy and awesome. I haven’t used this palette as much as I should because it is a bit bulky, but all of the shades are pigmented and blendable, just like a normal UD shadow.

Oz the Great and Powerful Theodora palette

This is another case of hate the movie, love the palette. This is one of Urban Decay’s refillable/create your own shadow palettes, but on a slightly larger scale (six pans instead of four) and has images from the movie on it. It came with a lip pencil that I’ve long since used up, and a little card with how to make the looks from the movie. There was also a Glinda palette, but it didn’t quite go with my hair and skin tone, so the one I bought became a gift for someone else. For a minute UD sold my favorite shade from the Glinda palette as a single so that was enough for me. All of the shades in the Theodora palette are gorgeous and the same quality of UD singles. This is another one I don’t reach for often, but I have taken it on trips with me because it’s so pretty.

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction palette

Are you noticing a trend here?

You can still get this palette from Glambot if the idea of purchasing used makeup doesn’t completely turn you off (I’m still undecided about that). This has some nice neutral matte shades, and I used it a lot as a companion to other palettes. It’s not very functional on its own (for me… I like a bit of color), but again, I bought it for the packaging. I’m kicking myself for not getting the rest of the things in this collection; they had a gorgeous lipstick and matching nail polish that would have instantly made me into Mia. Live and learn I guess.

After the Alice palette, Disney seems to have transitioned to using Lorac for their tie-ins. I’ve never been a huge fan of Lorac and I wasn’t keen on either the Pirates of the Caribbean collection or the Beauty and the Beast collection. They were just too… plain I guess. I am looking forward to the Frozen collection from Mally Beauty. It launches next month and seems to be exclusive to QVC. The packaging is stunning, and I like that there’s a warm version and a cool version. I’m not a complete Disney fanatic, but I do love pretty things and nice makeup.
