I saw this tag on a blog I follow, Kat’s Chats; make sure you check out her post. I’m finding that I really enjoy doing these tags. I’m new here so it’s a good way to get to know me, and it gives me an easy topic for a post. Now that I’ve been doing this for awhile it takes more thought to come up with interesting and non-repetitive post topics.
I love Halloween, and not just in the fall. Some of the permanent decorations in my house are technically Halloween decorations (I don’t think skulls should be limited to one holiday, ok?), and I watch scary movies as often as possible. I like being scared, and I wish that the Halloween season lasted for more than like a month.
What is your favorite Halloween movie?
Oh my lord, hard question. Hellraiser. Halloween. The Nightmare Before Christmas. Amityville Horror. The Exorcist. Rocky Horror Picture Show. How can I pick just one?
What is your first Halloween memory?
Arguing with my mom about wearing my winter coat over my costume. I live in Western New York state, and it would frequently snow on Halloween when I was a kid. Every year I’d pick out a super cute (to me) costume, and when it was time to trick or treat it would be a battle. Of course, my mom was right, and she always won because my choice was the coat or no candy, but it felt like the most epic struggle of good (me) versus evil (my mom).
Have you always been a Halloween lover?
I think so. I was a chubby kid so I loved candy, and free candy while wearing a cute outfit was the ultimate goal.
How do you get into the Halloween spirit?
Scary movies, ghost hunting with my friends (yes this is a real thing; next time I might even post about it), carving pumpkins with the kids in my family, hayrides, cider. Oh man, it’s all so good.
Favorite Halloween decoration?
Last year my mom gave me a little resin skull with sparkly eyes that holds a tea light. It’s a pretty small, cheap decoration but it’s surprisingly pretty.
How do you plan to spend this Halloween?
Visit with the niece and nephew before they go out trick or treating, then heading to Dan’s sister’s place to hang out with her slightly older kids, have a bonfire and drink a couple beers. I’m doing most of my serious Halloween activities this weekend.
Name one unusual thing you’re afraid of:
Aliens. I don’t know why, but I find the concept, depictions, movies, all terrifying. Something about the unknown from the vastness of space just freaks me out.
Favorite Halloween song?
Does “Thriller” count? How about “Werewolf Barmitzvah” from 30 Rock? I love them both for obvious reasons.
Do you enjoy carving pumpkins?
Absolutely! I did it last weekend with my nephew and my mom. Pumpkin guts are weird and gross but I love playing with them.
Halloween party or movie marathon?
I enjoy both, and sometimes I even combine them. A dear friend of mine has an annual party called “Bad movies, good company” where a large group of people sits around eating, drinking and watching terrible horror movies. It’s the greatest. I’ve missed it for the last few years due to scheduling conflicts, but I look forward to next year.
So that’s it for my tag. I hope you enjoyed it, and feel free to do one of your own! If you do, come back and post a link to your tag in the comments; I’d love to read them!
