Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

Ok guys, it’s time for me to eat crow.

Back in the day, I was a pretty hardcore makeup snob, which I’ve mentioned before. I wouldn’t wear anything that couldn’t be purchased at Sephora, except maybe Burt’s Bees lip balm. I was vehemently anti-drug store when it came to my makeup, and I was convinced that putting anything that cost less than $20 on my face would result in some horrific skin condition or… I don’t even know what.

I was wrong. So, so wrong.

Not that there aren’t great products from prestige brands; of course there are. If there weren’t they wouldn’t be highly respected and sought-after products. But I’ve learned that the price tag doesn’t determine whether or not a product is worth purchasing.

Which brings me to what might be my new favorite foundation: Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation in 201 Classic Beige. It set me back a whopping $5.49 at Walgreens, but it’s so good.

Pros: Obviously, the price; for $5.49 you still get the standard one fluid ounce of product. It went on and blended easily, and it blurred the little bit of texture on my face. It can be built up to be full coverage, but I don’t bother. I don’t mind having some of my freckles come through. It doesn’t feel heavy on and when it dries it just feels like skin. I set it with the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder.

They claim it lasts for 25 hours, and after the abuse I put it through last weekend I’m much less skeptical of that claim. I went to a masquerade party and my face was covered by a scratchy mask. I was drinking and sweaty, but when I took the mast off I still looked flawless. I then went dancing, drank some more, and fell asleep for a few hours in my makeup (I know, terrible). When I woke up around five am and finally took my makeup off, it still looked great. What?! I can’t even handle how well this performed. I didn’t blot or powder once over the course of the evening, and the total wear time was about 14 hours.

Cons: The shade range is honestly abysmal. It’s a miracle I managed to find a shade that matches me almost perfectly. It doesn’t have a pump in the US and that’s a huge con for me. I end up wasting a lot of product. I also don’t like the smell of this. It’s really perfumed, but luckily the smell goes away by the time I get it on my face.

Conclusion: Yeah, I like this stuff. Highly recommend. Will purchase again and again, ad infinitis, until it’s discontinued or it does something icky to my face.
