My favorite mascaras under $10

Since you guys seemed to enjoy my $10 and under foundation post, I thought I’d do a few more posts on “budget-friendly” products. I use quotes here because all of our budgets are different and we may have different financial priorities and… you get the idea.

This time I want to talk about mascara.

I love mascara. I wear it almost every day, even if I don’t have time to put anything else on my face. I think it makes me look more awake and alive, even if I’m sick or haven’t slept. I don’t remember the last time I left the house without wearing at least one coat of whatever mascara was closest to my desk, and there’s usually one in my purse in case I forget. So let’s get into it.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara

This is another product that’s been talked to death in the beauty community since it was released, but this is one of those rare products that is worth the hype. Some people say it’s a dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara (and looking at the packaging I can see how you might think that), but I honestly think it’s loads better. The Too Faced mascara ends up looking really clumpy and flakes all over my face by the end of the day, and this doesn’t. I have moderately sensitive, watery eyes so it’s the rare non- waterproof mascara that doesn’t end up transferring to my lower lashline, but this is one of them. I don’t like the waterproof version of this as it’s practically impossible to remove using normal methods. I also don’t like the Mystic Black color. I can’t be sure, but I think it dried out extra fast. I normally keep mascaras for way longer than they recommend, but when I bought this in Mystic Black it got a bit crusty after only a month.

Essence Lash Princess mascara

Yes, I like these

I talked about this in my Essence post awhile ago, and I’m still firmly on board with these mascaras. I’ve tried the green and the orange/peach, and they’re both so, so good. I’ve started using a mascara primer again and the combination makes me look like I’m wearing false lashes. I can’t say enough good things about these mascaras. Right now you can get all three in a holiday kit from Ulta.

Cover Girl Peacock Flare mascara

This is a new one for me, not only because it was just released but also because I haven’t worn a Cover Girl mascara since I was in middle school. I was pleasantly surprised by this; it didn’t make my lashes crazy long or voluminous, which I’m totally ok with. I like a more natural, sort of fluttery look, and that’s exactly what I got from this mascara. It didn’t flake or transfer to my lower lashline, and for me, that’s pretty much the standard for whether or not I’ll continue to wear a mascara. The formula is a little bit wet when first opened, but mine got to the consistency that I like after a week or so.

Clinique High Impact Mascara + Lash Building Primer

Yes, this is a travel size for the same price as a full-size drugstore mascara. Yes, it’s completely worth it. I love the formula of both of these products, and I’ve never run out of a mascara or primer before it got crusty so the size isn’t something that bothers me. This makes my lashes look so gorgeous; they’re long and full but not thick and clumpy. I generally wear this for special events or when I want my eyes to look extra spectacular.

So these are my recommendations for “budget-friendly” mascaras. Are there any others that you love? Do you hate one of my favorites? Let me know down below!
