The Christmas Tag

For Blogmas day 7 I give to you… the Christmas tag!

I’ve seen this tag in a few of my favorite blogs since Blogmas started, and I figured that since it’s my very first Blogmas I should probably do it. I’ve seen a bunch of different questions so I’m just choosing a few of my favorites.

What’s your favorite childhood Christmas memory?

My sister is a little less than two years younger than I am, and when we were kids she’d lose her tiny mind about Christmas. Every year she’d be up around 3 am, jumping on me (literally), wanting to wake up our parents and go open gifts. Being the much older and wiser sister, it was my job to talk her out of it and spare her from the wrath of our mom. So I’d take her out in the living room and let her open one gift, and it had to be from our parents and not from Santa. After she opened her one present, the deal was that she had to lay on the sofa next to the Christmas tree quietly and play with whatever she opened. She was typically asleep again in about 12 seconds, and I could sleep in peace until at least 6 am, which was when we were allowed to wake up our parents. My sister did this until we were in our early 20s; the only thing that changed was the time she jumped on me.

What is your favorite festive food?

My grandma’s cream puffs and pizza bread. She only makes them at Christmas, and they’re so, SO good.

Are you on the Naughty or Nice list?

Let’s face it: someone who has as many opinions as I do and is as creative with her cuss words as I am is likely on the Naughty list.

Do you start your holiday shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

I shop all year. When I see something that I think someone will like, I grab it, especially if it’s on sale. I do a lot of shopping on Black Friday/Cyber Monday, but it’s usually for me.

What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

Muppet Christmas Carol. I was just talking about this.

What holiday traditions are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m really looking forward to the party at my parents’ on Christmas Eve. We’re having some new faces this year and I’m excited for everyone to meet. Mostly I’m excited for Dan’s sister and her kids to come and meet my family and see the madness that is our Christmas.

When did you realize the truth about Santa?

I was just talking about this too, but not on the blog. I was hanging out with my mom and my cousin the other day and my mom made some offhand joking comment about how her kids pretended to believe in Santa until they were like 10 to get more gifts. No mom, that’s not how it went down.

I distinctly remember coming home from school in tears one day when I was about eight. Some of the older kids on the school bus had told me that Santa wasn’t real, and when I got home I went right to my mom because I knew she wouldn’t bullshit me. She’s a straight shooter, my mom. So she was brutally honest, as is her way, and I was completely devastated. I remember sitting in the kitchen with her and sobbing for what felt like hours. It was a defining moment in my young life. I feel like I was never the same.

Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

At this point, I much prefer giving gifts. Not to brag, but I’m an excellent gift giver. All of the gifts I give are thoughtful and wonderful and I’m awesome at it.

If you had one Christmas wish, what would it be?

My Christmas wish would be for everyone on the planet to be warm, healthy and happy. I would also wish for no political topics to come up during our Christmas celebrations.

Rockefeller Center

So that’s my Christmas tag. Thank you to Kat’s Chats, The Life of Kristyn and Sophie Hearts for giving me the inspiration to do this tag! If you decide to do this tag, leave a link to your blog in the comments so I can check it out!
