First impression: bareMinerals Made-2-Fit Liquid Foundation

This is a cool concept and a good foundation, but I’m super disappointed.

So, this came from my first Virtual VoxBox from Influenster. If you’re not familiar with Virtual VoxBoxes (I sure wasn’t), it’s an additional campaign that you can participate it right away. With this one, Influenster sent a promo code, and the first 2,000 people to use it would receive this foundation for free. My first thought when I got the email was “YESSSS FREE FOUNDATION!!” and I immediately rushed to redeem it.

In order to redeem the code, I had to download the bareMinerals Made2Fit app on my phone and go through the process to scan various parts of my arm and face to determine my shade. It’s a really cool and innovative concept; wouldn’t it be amazing if you could find your perfect foundation shade using the camera and flash on your phone? Sadly, I think the lighting in the room where I completed the process must have been a bit wonky, because my “perfect shade” is super dark and a bit orange. Oops. It does have my name on it though.

Pros: The process is kind of cool, and there’s something neat about having my name on a custom foundation. It feels fancy. It came packaged in a really lovely box which only adds to the fanciness, and it was mixed and shipped really quickly. The bottle is decently heavy glass and it comes with a sturdy pump. The product itself goes on smoothly and blends out pretty easily, though it does set kind of fast. It feels weightless on my skin and has a natural finish. I’ve worn it for as long as 12 hours and even on my oily skin it doesn’t break down or look cakey.

Cons: If you don’t have good lighting when you’re scanning yourself in the app your shade will be disappointing. It’s also a little on the pricey side, even for bareMinerals. Their other liquid foundations are $30-$35, and their mineral foundations are even less expensive.

I’ll likely mix mine with one of my lighter foundations to make it work, but I don’t know if I’ll repurchase. It’s a good quality foundation, but I don’t know if it’s $49 good. If you decide to try the app, make sure you’re in an area with good natural light so you don’t have the same problem I did!
