I received this mask in my April Boxycharm, and since my skin is a bit out of whack from traveling I was excited to use it.
My very first thought: Holy Hell, what is that stench?! It smells like sulfur and… I can’t think of anything else. It just stinks of sulfur. Rarely have I opened a mask and been this put off by the smell. Just… ew.
The texture of this stuff is also odd: it’s an opaque white with blue beads. Not what I was expecting for a pore mask.
When you rub the mask on your face the beads dissolve so the mask takes on a blue tint. When it dries it stiffens and turns more white like you’d expect from an oily skin or pore mask.
Unfortunately, the stink doesn’t dissipate when you get it on your skin, so the sulfur is in your face for 10ish minutes. Gross.
I’ve used this mask twice and my face feels really good afterward. It’s clean, it feels less oily over the course of the day and it’s not overly drying. Cool. I’m on board with those things.
The problem is that after two uses, the tube is half empty. I received the full 1 oz. size so I’m a little confused; are there really only four uses in this $47 mask? That can’t possibly be true since they recommend using it 2-3 times per week.
So I’m going to keep using it despite the smell. We’ll see how long it lasts.
My skin loved sulfur based masks in high school so much that I have a positive reaction to the smell now. Kind of weird, but eh, win-win for me really.

I’ve never used a sulfur product before. What were you using in high school?

Proactive used to have one in its lineup. It’s the only thing of theirs that didn’t trash my skin.

Ohh I think I remember that. I didn’t use it and I haven’t seen anything like it since.
