The A to Z of me

I saw this post a few weeks ago on Jessica Jade Beauty and thought it was a fun idea. I’ve been working on it for a long time; it’s way harder than I thought it would be.

A – Animation

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this before, but I love cartoons. Disney and Dreamworks movies, 80s and 90s cartoons, Adult Swim cartoons, 2D, 3D, I love it all.

B – Beauty

This one is obvious. My blog is mostly about beauty, and I’ve been obsessed with makeup and skincare for years.

C – Chiari Malformation

Ok, I know this one is weird, but it’s one of the illnesses I have, and it’s absolutely a part of who I am and has impacted my life in countless ways. Basically, my brain is too big for my skull, and a few years ago I needed to have surgery that involved part of my skull being removed and replaced by a flexible patch. The surgeon also removed a couple of the vertebrae at the top of my spine. All of this was in an effort to make more room for my brain and relieve some of the pressure that was causing symptoms. Cool, right?

D – Driving

I enjoy the act of driving. It’s why I choose to drive to places like Michigan and Florida, rather than fly.

E – Education

This is something I value highly; I don’t even just mean formal education since I’m a college dropout, but continuing to learn is vital. We all walk around with the whole of human knowledge at our fingertips; we should do more than post on Instagram and scroll through Facebook.

F – Fuck

Hands down my favorite word in the entire English language because of its versatility and impact.

G – Gas

I hate putting gas in my car. I don’t know why. It’s something I do, of course, but every time I have to do it it’s like the worst chore ever. I groan internally.

H – History

19th-century schoolroom

I’m a huge history nerd. I love learning about the history of places I visit, and 80% of the reason I want to visit Europe is the history of the entire continent is fascinating and violent. I’ve visited several Civil War battlefields, some of them multiple times. I read tons of history and historical fiction, and I’m in love with Ken Burns.

I – Intelligence

This is something I strive for and value greatly in other people. Not just school/book intelligence, but all kinds; mechanical, emotional, creative.

J – Jokes

I’m funny. I’m sure you’ve noticed.

K – Kids

Love kids. They’re super fun and I love being an aunt. I never want my own.

L – Lazy

I am fundamentally lazy. I save energy and effort wherever possible

M – Memento Mori (Latin: remember death)

Memento mori from St. Cuthbert’s Churchyard, Edinburgh, Scotland. Courtesy of Daniel Naczk.

Memento mori is the ancient practice of reflecting on mortality and death. If you’ve been around for awhile you know that I love Caitlin Doughty and her books about death and death practices. It’s a topic I try to face head-on and talk about with as much honesty as possible. I also really like cemeteries and the symbolism attached to them, like memento mori.

N – No

This is one of the hardest words for me to say. Like a lot of people, I take on too much and do too many favors and never want to let anyone down, so I don’t say no. It’s something I’m actively working on.

O – Online dating

I haven’t talked much about my day job, but I work for a dating website. It’s also where I met Dan and many other partners and great friends. I’m a huge proponent of it and recommend online dating to all of my single friends and family members.

P – Paranormal

I’ve posted about my love of and fascination with the paranormal. I don’t know what it is, I just love it.

Q – Question

Question your perceptions. Question authority. Question everything.

R – Relationship

We’re being weird.

I’m in a relationship. He’s the best and the cutest and I adore him.

S – Sweet tooth

I have one. I could eat cake for every meal and never get tired of it. If it wasn’t for things like my weight and diabetes and proper nutrition, I’d live on sweets.

T – Teal

Favorite color of ever. My laptop is teal. My hair was teal. My coffeemaker is teal. You get it.

U – Useless

This is one of my favorite insults. In my world, there isn’t anything worse than just being a useless person.

V – Venti

The only appropriate size for a coffee (unless a large exists at the place where you’re obtaining your coffee).

W – Water

This is the only non-alcoholic beverage I drink, but I’m bougie so I only drink carbonated water. I call it fancy water. Because it’s fancy. La Croix is good, Polar is better.

X – X-Men

I love Marvel and the X-men were always my favorite. I could read these comics and watch (some) of these movies all day long. The only exceptions are the Wolverine origin movies. So terrible.

Y – Yankee

No, not the baseball team. While I was born in Florida, my heart belongs to NY. I’m a died in the wool Yankee, with all of the bleeding heart liberal, educated, “elitist” trappings that go along with it.

Z – Zen

The state I’m constantly trying to attain. Clear your mind, inhale, exhale, repeat.

Thus concludes the A to Z of me. I hope you enjoyed this totally random extra post. If you decide to do a post like this, leave it in the comments. I’d love to read it!
