New beauty subscription: Kinder Beauty Box

Months ago I heard that my lady crush Evanna Lynch, i.e. Luna Lovegood, would be releasing her own vegan, cruelty-free beauty subscription box, and I was SO EXCITED that the minute it was available for pre-order I bought it without thinking twice.

The first box arrived a week or so ago, and I thought I’d show you what’s inside.

The whole point of this box is to find kinder beauty, meaning vegan, cruelty-free, natural, etc. More and more people are asking where their beauty products come from and what’s in them, so I think this is a great way to introduce consumers to products they may not have heard of or don’t have ready access to. Also, a portion of sales are donated to animal and environmental causes, so that’s nice.

The outer box is made of recycled materials with the Kinder beauty logo, and inside is just as cute, with the insert we’ve come to know and love with our beauty subscriptions. This one also includes a welcome message for the first ever box. I don’t love that they used that super annoying shredded paper as packing material, but it is an eco-friendly choice that’s aesthetically pleasing.

The products:

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, $26

This stuff is supposed to be full of antioxidants and caffeine to help de-puff and increase circulation, plus rosehip oil to moisturize under eyes. Sounds awesome. I’ve used it a few times and it feels nice, but I wish it had a rollerball or some other kind of applicator.

Andalou Naturals Turmeric + C Enlighten Serum, $24.95

This product promises brighter looking skin and a luminous complexion. I haven’t tried this yet but I’m excited to. I’ve wanted to start incorporating a vitamin C serum into my skincare routine, and turmeric is starting to pop up in a lot of stuff.

Inika Organic Loose Mineral Eye Shadow in Coco Motion, $22

So, this is a loose shadow. A brown one. It’s… fine. I don’t use loose shadow because I end up making a mess so I didn’t even swatch this. It went right in the Vulture Box. Also, are they for real with this price?

Honeybee Gardens Effortless Eyeliner in Belgian Chocolate, $8.99

A pencil liner, but at least it’s not black. I guess. Not exciting. Not keeping it.

Juara Rice Facial Cleanser, $29 full size

This is the only trial size in the box and it’s still a decent size. I like that they didn’t include tiny samples or lame foil packets. I’m looking forward to trying this. I’ve liked the other rice cleansers I’ve used to I have high hopes. This is coming along on my travels next week so we’ll see how I feel about it.

The price of this box is $24.99 monthly, and the total value for the inaugural box is $81.94, not including the deluxe sample of the rice cleanser. Clearly, the value of the box is more than what I paid for it, but with services like FabFitFun and Boxycharm, I think I’ve come to expect more from subscription boxes. I’m giving it a little bit of leeway seeing as it’s the first box, I like what they’re trying to do here; not only with the vegan and cruelty-free products but also with donations to organizations supporting animals and the environment. I think that once my “smart buy” is over I’ll subscribe again for at least a few months to get a better idea of whether or not it’s worth it.
