Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty – week 1

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Spooky season and Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty! I love these sales because I can stock up on favorite things and try new things and not pay full price. I already give too much of my money to Ulta. I’m a day late due to traveling and family events over the last week, but better late than never.

September 2:

Ofra highlighters – I’ve never used one of these but they’re pretty universally loved. I don’t own or buy or really wear highlighter, so I don’t have the drive to try these.

Foreo LUNA Play Plus – I don’t have this device, but I have the LUNA fofo, and I don’t love it. Having the ability to sync it with an app on my phone was pretty cool, but I just don’t like the way it feels on my skin, and I don’t think it really does anything. I also have a Clarisonic, and I feel like that does a lot more for my skin, so I’m sticking with it. Sorry LUNA.

Strivectin Advanced Retinol Intensive Night Moisturizer – I’ve only ever tried one product from this brand but I like it. I’ve been on the hunt for a good night cream, but I’m not familiar enough with retinol and what it could do to my skin, so I’m going to hold out for now. I need to do some more research before I start slathering acids and stuff on my skin.

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm (Diamond/Platinum members) – This is my all-time favorite cleansing balm. It takes off long-wearing and waterproof makeup like it’s no big deal, and it emulsifies and rinses away cleanly. So many balms leave a greasy residue, and this doesn’t, and I love it. If I didn’t already have two of them I’d grab another one to make sure I never run out.

September 3:

Becca Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh powder – I’ve noticed that this is popping up in sales and subscription boxes all over the place lately, and that suggests to me that it’s about to be discontinued. It seems weird, and I’m not interested.

Eyeko mascara – I’m really curious about this mascara formula, and I really like the packaging. It’s so much easier to get product out of a squeeze tube. So I’m getting at least one.

Mario Badescu Rose Hip Nourishing Oil – I like Mario Badescu skincare, but I don’t wear facial oils really, so I’m not going to buy it.

Butter London lip products – If I didn’t have an entire drawer overflowing with lip products I might grab one or two of these. But alas, I need another lip product like I need a hole in the head. So I’m not going to.

Flesh highlighters – No. Just, no.

September 4:

bareMinerals concealers – I don’t wear concealer very often and have two that I’m slowly working my way through, so I don’t think I’ll buy any of these. I love bareMinerals though, and they’re totally worth the money.

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming eye gels – I’ve purchased these in the past and really like them. They’ve come on trips with me and do wonders for tired vacation eyes. I’ll likely grab them while they’re on sale.

K-beauty from Touch In Sol, IPKN, Erborian, etc. – I love me some K-beauty, and I’ve wanted to try Erborian, but it’s a bit pricey. I’ll likely buy the Touch In Sol No Poreblem set or the IPKN mattifying primer, and the Erborian CC cream.

September 5:

Tarte Tarteist Double Take eyeliner – I’ve used Tarte’s liners before, and they’re… fine. Not awful, but also nothing to write home about. Needless to say, I’m not buying this.

MAC lipstick – Sure, there are only three colors on sale, but I love all of them and might get all of them. I know I already have too many lipsticks, but who can say no to half-priced MAC?

Shiseido Foaming cleansers – I’ve used Shiseido cleansers in the past and really liked them. They’re so expensive that I can’t justify buying them normally, but for half price I’ll consider it.

Murad Nutrient Charged Water gel – This appears to be a more serious anti-wrinkle cream than I normally use, and I suspect it’ll be way too heavy for my skin. For $30 I think I’ll skip it.

September 6:

Lancome Monsieur Big mascara – I really love this mascara. It gives my lashes awesome volume without looking clumpy, and it doesn’t flake off by the end of the day. I prefer the waterproof version, but it’s still a good mascara.

Perricone High Potency collection – I don’t know anything about this brand, but the prices, even on sale, kind of make me want to cry. I’m hesitant to try anything, lest I love it and not be able to afford it later.

Philosophy The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash – I really don’t get the hype with Philosophy. I’ve tried a bunch of their products, including this one, and never been impressed. This isn’t bad, it’s just not as exfoliating as I like. I also don’t like the way it smells. Again, it’s not bad, it’s just sort of like old-school soap. It’s not a smell I expect from an expensive skincare brand.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Instant Fix concealer – I don’t like Estee Lauder’s complexion products. All the ones I’ve tried feel heavy and gross on my face, so I’m not into it.

September 7:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer – This is such an iconic product that I don’t even need to talk about it. I’m covered for brow products at the moment so I’ll be skipping it.

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing cream – From the description it doesn’t sound like this is for oily skin. All of the emphasis on moisture makes me think it’s a heavier moisturizer than I can use, so I’ll pass.

Cover FX primers – I’ve wanter to try the mattifying primer since it was released, and I’m super excited that it’s included with this sale. Yes, it’s definitely coming home with me.

Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy moisturizer – Another iffy moisturizer. They claim that it’s for all skin types, but I’m always skeptical of that claim. Someone with dry skin needs a different level of moisture than I do, so how can one moisturizer work for both of us? It’s also geared for people with dark spots and hyper-pigmentation, which I don’t have, so it’s not something I’ll be spending money on.

$10 off a Dermalogica facial with a Dermalogica purchase – I’m not super in love with Dermalogica products and I’ve never tried Ulta’s skin services, so I can’t say whether or not this is worth it.

So that’s it for the first week. Have you tried any of the things I haven’t? Is there anything you’re dying to try for a discount?
