Happy Sunday friends! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend and, unlike me, are ready to face the week tomorrow.
I’ve spent my weekend taking care of business (meaning washing makeup brushes) and spending time with family. I hadn’t planned to comment on this, but I can’t help myself.
Now, I don’t watch Tati’s channel. I did for awhile but I unsubscribed because, with very few exceptions, I prefer smaller channels. I like watching people who are a bit more… I don’t know, in touch with normal people, I guess. I like watching “influencers” who have full-time jobs and families and responsibilities outside of YouTube. I’m not someone who likes watching gigantic, $10,000 PR unboxings or “Get Ready With Me” videos on someone’s private jet. It just seems too fake. Staged. I have nothing against Tati as a human being but the style of her channel just isn’t for me.
As I’m sure you know, Tati revealed the first product in her long-awaited beauty brand, and it’s a vitamin/supplement for hair, skin, and nails. People were understandably disappointed that it’s not makeup or skincare. You’d think that someone like Tati would immediately gravitate to makeup, so this doesn’t exactly make sense. She wanted her brand to be inclusive, which is admirable, but a supplement?
On to the problems: she’s claiming that this works and she uses it and it’s given her the gorgeous skin and nails we see in her videos. Taking any Biotin based product will do wonders for your hair and nails, but Biotin can also cause breakouts. Tati also uses insanely expensive skincare products. I’m sure that has something to do with why her skin looks so good.
She claimed that these were clinically proven, but that’s extremely vague and doesn’t mean what people think it means. I’d like to see the reports from the clinical trials before I believe this claim, and none have been made publicly available.
There have been other claims about the ingredients that range from being dangerous to just being problematic, and I don’t know enough about vitamins or chemistry to comment on those claims. I also don’t necessarily trust Google. The one claim that does concern me is that some of these ingredients decrease the efficacy of some birth control methods. That is bad. Very, very bad. This needs to be made plainly obvious when you’re selling something like this. It’s irresponsible not to disclose it.
Then there’s the price: $39.95 USD (plus shipping) for a one month supply. I don’t take supplements or anything on the regular so I don’t know how this compares, but it seems really expensive. My medically necessary medications don’t cost this much every month. I have taken Biotin before, but it wasn’t nearly this expensive.
I don’t think she deserves the level of hate she’s received after this announcement, but it’s definitely a little weird. I’m all for female entrepreneurs, though I won’t be buying this.
What do you think? Will you be getting these supplements?
To be honest I have never watched any of her videos, but had heard of the controversy behind launching vitamins as the first product of her brand. In my opinion, it’s dangerous to promote something that you truly don’t have 100% knowledge on. I’ve also heard of the concerns of it decreasing birth control effects and I think that’s something she should’ve addressed as many of her viewers can be on birth control. It is pricey for what they are and I’m sure you could find vitamins that claim the same things at Target or Walmart for under $20. These are just my opinions! Thanks for such a good post!
